Because the traditional DUV lithography machine cannot manufacture 7nm and above chip products, if you want to create advanced technology, you can only choose EUV lithography machine. Unexpectedly, the EUV lithography machine was targeted again

Recently, new regulations on lithography machines have been released again. The appearance of the new regulations has caught many people by surprise, even TSMC, Samsung and other companies did not expect it. According to the new regulations, in the future, the EUV lithography equipment produced by ASML will not only need to be licensed for shipment, but will not even be able to enter the branch factories of foreign companies in China. This means that the domestic branch factories of foreign chip companies cannot buy advanced EUV lithography equipment.

It should be known that TSMC, Samsung, SK and other global chip giants have a large number of branch factories in China, and even most of SK's production capacity is completed in China, and the emergence of this rule will undoubtedly directly affect the The manufacturing progress and development status of these enterprises. So whether it is TSMC or Samsung, they are not immune to the new regulations.

The emergence of this rule is harmful to both the development of enterprises and the development of enterprises in our country. First of all, for enterprises, the inability to purchase advanced equipment into domestic branch factories means that these branch factories can only choose backward and mature technologies in terms of order manufacturing. And this will also cause some enterprises to selectively leave the country to build factories, which will lead to increased factory construction costs and increased risks.

Secondly, once an enterprise leaves the domestic market to develop elsewhere, it will directly slow down the local development speed, which is also a loss to the local economy.

Self-developed lithography machine is imminent

It is not difficult to see that this new regulation is actually aimed at EUV lithography machines and the speed of chip development in my country. But the more in this case, the more urgent the research and development of lithography machines. Although we may not be able to achieve independent research and development and production of all parts, as long as the key parts are de-beautified, the manufacture and production of purely domestic lithography machines may not be a fantasy. It should be known that Shanghai Microelectronics has already made some achievements in the production of 28nm lithography machines, and has also made breakthroughs in some key technologies. As long as this state is guaranteed, the problem of lithography machines will be solved sooner or later.
